2024 KYCC Holiday Carnival
2024 KYCC Holiday Carnival

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

Thank you for volunteering for KYCC's 31st Annual Holiday Carnival! We are excited to host this free event for the community which will be filled with game booths, live performances, arts and crafts, and a special chance to visit Santa Claus, who hands each child a wrapped holiday gift. Our success is the result of a joint effort by KYCC and supporters like YOU, who helped to create this safe and family-friendly festival in Koreatown. Every year, KYCC engages over 300 volunteers to put on our biggest event of the year. Volunteer roles include giftwrapping, toy distribution, arts and crafts, games, registration and more. Partners are also invited to host a booth, lead a toy drive or sponsor the event. * The minimum age to volunteer at this event is 16 years old. For many roles, you must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. These areas will be indicated on the form. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers. We'll be providing a t-shirt for you to wear to identify you as an event volunteer. Volunteers who are coming as part of a team are welcome to wear their own team's shirts at our event. Date: Saturday, December 14, 2024 Location: TBA More details will come out in October 2024, but for any inquiries in the meantime please feel free to contact volunteer@kyccla.org.

Spreading Awareness to Youth (SAY)

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

KYCC’s Clinical Services launched the Spreading Awareness to Youth (S.A.Y.) club this year to help promote mental health awareness among high school students and to empower more young people to educate one another, raise awareness about mental health and end the stigma against mental illness. Students meet every week to participate in mental health workshops, activities and peer-led discussions on topics such as depression among adolescents. Throughout the program, SAY members grow their understanding of mental health, learn to be advocates on the issue of mental health and develop their leadership skills. If you're currently in high school and have an interest in mental health either personally or as a potential career, SAY is the place for you! SAY meets every Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. – 6:20 p.m. in-person from October 2024 - May 2025. Applications are required for admission. SAY is currently accepting applications (bit.ly/applySAY24) through 9/20/24. To learn more, please contact volunteer@kyccla.org.

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

Youth Services provides safe, accessible and high quality programs for Koreatown youth. KYCC’s afterschool programs have been a mainstay in our organization since the day we opened our agency in 1975. Nearly forty four years ago, we recognized the need for support for recently immigrated Korean youth who were having trouble adjusting, both culturally and linguistically, to life in the United States. Today, with over 60 percent of Koreatown residents being foreign born, KYCC knows that essential services for all children in our multiethnic community are still a necessity, and that case management, enrichment activities, and academic services are critical to their emotional and educational well-being. Our volunteers help to mentor and tutor our K-12 students in our afterschool programs by assisting our instructors with Homework Help and Enrichment Activities. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one two-hour shift per week from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday for at least three months. Interns are asked to commit to at least 10 hours per week from 1:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday - Friday for at least three months. To apply, scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the "volunteer" button to be prompted to sign up for the YS Staff Interview where you'll meet our volunteer supervisor for a brief and informal meeting.
