USC Hybrid High Introventure Week: Tree Maintenance

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

Join KYCC and USC Hybrid High School for our InTroVenture Week with a tree maintenance Event. Help us maintain shade trees in your area to increase tree canopy coverage and mitigate the negative health and environmental effects of extreme heat and climate change. We can't do it alone and need your help! Event Location: 3951 Denker Ave, Los Angeles, CA Date/Time: Thursday, February 5th from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Registration: ALL volunteers must register in advance, regardless of age. Sign up by scrolling to the bottom of this page and clicking "Volunteer" - please note this button will say "Fulfilled" when the event is full. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult 18+ years old throughout the event. Every year, KYCC plants over 1,000 trees in our community to improve the quality of life for our residents, grow our urban tree canopy and building a better Los Angeles. At this event, volunteers will work in small teams to make sure our young trees grow up healthy and strong. Duties include watering, pruning, mulching, and inspecting tree sites. All tools and supplies are provided. Impact: Did you know? • Improved Air Quality: Urban trees absorb pollutants helping to improve overall air quality. • Climate Regulation: Trees help mitigate urban heat islands by providing shade and releasing moisture through transpiration, which cools the surrounding environment. • Mental Health Benefits: Spending time around trees and green spaces has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and can improve overall well-being. Urban trees create calming and restorative environments. • Economic Benefits: Trees increase property values and attract businesses and tourists. This position requires a lot of physical activity so please come prepared with sunscreen, hats, comfortable clothes, and shoes! PPE will be provided by KYCC.
