Community Planning and Development Internship

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

Summary: The Community Planning & Development (CPD) Intern, working under the direction of the Director of Community Planning & Development, shall support KYCC’s new program development efforts through research, data collection, and analysis reports. The intern will also support ongoing community engagement efforts including but not limited to participating in meetings, canvassing, and digital media content development. Location: 3727 W. 6th Street Suite 300, Los Angeles, CA 90020 – hybrid (remote & in-person) Time commitment: Minimum six-month commitment, 16 hours per week. Hours must be completed Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with at least one in-person shift per week. Duties include: • Maintain the community development project tracking database and related map(s) • Monitor/track related public meetings (e.g., city, county) and report back on critical project or policy related milestones • Research critical development projects and policies including city entitlements processes • Track various mainstream development related news outlets and publications (e.g., Urbanize, Streetsblog) • Maintain the program's contact management database Stipend: $1,000/month, contingent on completion of hours. Qualifications and Requirements: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in an accredited post graduate college/university program and on their way to receiving a Master’s degree in one of the following areas of study: urban/city planning, urban studies, urban design, architecture, real estate development, environmental science, public policy, or other relevant disciplines. Cursory knowledge of GIS, zoning, and/or urban design principles is preferred. Strong writing skills are required. THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY AT CAPACITY. Interns will leave with: • A functional knowledge of local zoning regulations and land use entitlements processes • Functional knowledge of City of LA's community planning (i.e., general plan land use element) process • Critical analysis and research skills related policies in a real-world setting • Basic understanding of real estate development impacts in the context of equitable community development • Basic understanding of non-profit sector grant writing processes
