Pico Union Neighborhood Council Median Revitalization Event

Koreatown Youth and Community Center

Join KYCC and the Pico Union Neighborhood Council to revitalize our medians and plant California native and drought tolerant plants. We can't do it alone and need your help! Parking: Street parking only. Please be mindful of posted restrictions. As this can be a congested area, public transit and carpooling is always encouraged! Registration: ALL volunteers must register in advance. Volunteers must be at least 5 years of age. For safety and supervision reasons, any volunteers from ages 5-13 MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times during the event (one adult per two minors). Every year, KYCC removes thousands of bags of trash and paints over millions of square feet of graffiti to improve the quality of life for our residents and build a better Los Angeles for everyone. At this event, volunteers will work in small teams to beautify medians by planting native and drought tolerant plants on the median at the intersection of Venice Blvd. and Union Ave. All training, tools and supplies are provided. Impact: Did you know? • Neighborhood beautification builds community pride and ownership and can improve the quality of life of the residents. When a person has a good quality of life, they are happier and relieved of many stressors related to their safety and well-being. • By incorporating drought-tolerant and native plants into landscapes and gardens, individuals and communities can promote sustainability, conserve resources, and support local ecosystems. • Drought-Tolerant plants require minimal water once established, which reduces the need for irrigation. This is especially important in regions with limited water resources or during drought conditions. Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, close-toed shoes, bring sun protection and a water bottle and be ready to make some change!

Neighborhood beautification is one of the most frequent requests of our community members. Pico Union is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in LA and with so many people, we have that much more to clean up! This event is part of a pilot effort to develop sustainable, ongoing and community driven beautification efforts.

Please contact Alin Rangel at arangel@kyccla.org or (310) 871-6602 with any questions.

Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, close-toed shoes, bring sun protection and a water bottle and be ready to make some change!

If you can no longer attend, please use the "withdraw" feature on this platform to remove yourself from the shift and make room for someone else! :)
